The Semmes Camellia Festival is a free public event honoring Semmes History as the Nursery Center of America. The first festival was begun in 1949 and revised in 2013. Hundreds of beautiful individual Camellia blooms are displayed. Exhibits include Camellia tablescapes, Camellia Paintings, a collection of Camellia Plates by Villeroy & Boch, Camellia Prints by Lila Moore Keen, and guest speakers. The public is invited to participate in the Camellia show by bringing their favorite blooms from their home gardens to display along with Semmes nurserymen and guests from the Camellia Society of Mobile. Greeting guests are the Semmes Camellia Maids. Semmes Heritage Park, 3871 Wulff Rd, the sponsor of the Camellia Festival will hold open house. The center piece of the Heritage Park is the historic 1902 one room Semmes School, An Alabama Landmark; Malone Chapel, a replica of the 1900’s Mt. Pleasant Church; and a log cabin with displays from yesteryear's. Additional Parks to visit are the City of Semmes Honor Park and the Semmes Camellia Park.
